The Challenge
What makes Relay Radio work?
The Relay Radio challenge begins with teams forming their crew — a Team Captain, a Team Manager, and Builders. The Team Captain is taken to a separate area, completely out of sight from the rest of the team. The Captain is shown a model — a structure that the rest of the team must replicate using the materials provided. The twist? The captain can’t directly talk to the Builders. They can only communicate through the Team Manager using two-way voice transmission devices. The Captain describes what they see, the Manager interprets and relays it to the Builders, and the Builders must translate those words into an exact physical replica. As the pressure builds, teams face the ultimate test of patience and precision. Every misheard instruction, unclear description, or missed detail can send the design off-course. Success depends on concise communication, active listening, and mutual trust. When the time is up, all teams reveal their final structures beside the original model. The excitement peaks as similarities and hilarious mismatches are compared — showing which team communicated most effectively and which one took a few “creative” detours!
