1The Challenge
What was the challenge?
This was a group that rarely gets to step away together. The 20 participants were the most senior people in the organisation: the CEO, AVPs and heads of department. Between them, they carry responsibility for every part of the business, and most of their time together is spent in reviews, decisions and high-stakes conversations. The offsite was a chance to spend time with each other rather than with an agenda.
The Thought Bulb's brief covered a day and a half at Mango Beach Resort in Alibag. The first day was about energy: getting a senior team outdoors, competing and laughing together. The second day needed a different tone — ending on a gifting note, with an activity in which leaders made something for one another and everyone left with a keepsake. The final session had to be engaging enough to hold a senior audience and personal enough to leave a lasting impression.
2Our Solution
What solution did we design?
The Thought Bulb designed a two-day arc that moved from high energy to reflection. Day 1 opened with an Outdoor AR Treasure Hunt and Beach Olympics, putting the leadership team in competitive, playful situations that had nothing to do with rank. Day 2 closed with the Scent Symphony Challenge — a perfume-making experience with a gift at its heart.
Day 2 — The Scent Symphony Challenge. Participants were introduced to the building blocks of perfume — fragrance families, notes and the art of blending — and then given a meaningful twist: the fragrance they would create was not for themselves. Each leader was paired with a colleague and tasked with making a scent that captured something true about that person. Choosing notes required knowing your colleague — their personality, their spirit, the memory you wanted to give them. Every bottle was labelled with the recipient's name and the story behind the blend.
3How We Did It
How was the programme delivered?
Day 1 set the tone perfectly. The Outdoor AR Treasure Hunt sent teams through the resort on their phones, tracking clues around the grounds. Beach Olympics followed — a set of physical team games on the sand that had the SATS leadership team competing, laughing and completely out of their usual roles. By the end of the day, the group had a much more relaxed dynamic.
Day 2 opened with the Scent Symphony briefing in the resort's indoor space. With the energy of the previous day still present, the session moved into something slower and more intentional. Participants spent time thinking about their paired colleague before choosing their notes — asking questions, sharing memories, considering what fragrance would feel right. The blending itself was hands-on and creative. When the bottles were complete, the closing exchange — each leader presenting the fragrance they had made to the colleague it was created for — became the defining moment of the offsite.
4Key Outcomes
What were the results?
The Scent Symphony Challenge is not a typical closing activity for a senior leadership offsite. That was exactly why it worked. By the end of the second day, the SATS leadership team had moved from competitive outdoor games to something deeply personal — creating a gift for a colleague with care and thought.
Every leader left Alibag with a bottle of fragrance made for them by someone who knows them. That bottle carries a story: someone spent time thinking about who you are and what would suit you. For a leadership team that rarely gets time away from the business, it was the kind of ending that made the offsite matter beyond the two days spent there.
